Eyelid/Eyebrow Drooping

Dr. Pegram combines some physical tests with visual field testing to ascertain the severity of the condition. If the eyelid/brow position is affecting functional vision, then surgical intervention is most likely needed. If the vision is not severely obstructed, cosmetic surgical approaches are still available.

Orbital Disorders

Ever feel like one of your eyes is smaller or bigger than the other? The orbit, otherwise known as the eye socket, is a bony structure that houses the eyeball, its surrounding structures, and other organs. Some of these structures include the extra-ocular muscles, optic nerve, lacrimal (tear) glands, etc. Like the different parts of the body, the orbit may suffer from diseases and disorders. Some symptoms associated orbital disorders may include double vision, pain, unclear/blurry vision, dimming of vision, etc.

What are Orbital Disorders?

Orbital Disorders are abnormalities or diseases that affect the normal functions of the orbital contents. Some of the most common diseases of the orbit include Thyroid Eye Disease (TED), also known as Graves’ Disease. This is an autoimmune disease where the body’s own self defense cells attack the muscles and fat that surround the eyes causing inflammation and scarring. It also makes the eyes or eyelids appear red and swollen. In fact, in extreme cases, the eye muscles might be stiffened, resulting in the uneven movement of the two eyes, thereby leading to double vision. Several symptoms accompany this disease, some of which are watery eyes, baggy eyes, redness or inflammation of the eyes, etc. Please contact us at Eyesthetics for a thorough and comprehensive examination.

Orbital Tumors

Orbital tumors occur due to the formation of abnormal or uncontrolled growth of tissues within the orbit. These tumors may be benign or malignant. These must be addressed in a timely fashion to prevent spread to the surrounding tissues like the sinuses or the nearby brain. Ironically, orbital tumors may not show symptoms; with time, you may start experiencing things like eye-bulging, gradual loss of vision, and other symptoms.

Orbital Trauma

The orbital cavity is compromised of several bones and soft tissues that play important roles the protection of your eye and your vision. When there is trauma, these structures may become fractured or damaged, resulting in excessive tearing, loss of vision, double vision, pain with eye movement, an orbital hematoma, and many others.

Orbital Tumor Treatment

Depending on the size, nature, and location of the tumor, Dr. Pegram may recommend surgical excision, radiation therapy, or observation with the goal of vision preservation at the forefront.

Orbital Trauma Treatment

Dr. Pegram will asses any damage to bone or surrounding soft tissue to determine a reconstruction plan aimed at minimizing visible scarring and restoring functionality. Call Eyesthetics today to schedule a visit with Dr. Pegram.

Thyroid Eye Disease (TED) Treatment

Dr. Pegram may recommend a surgical approach, in order to decrease the bulging of one or both eyes or restore the eyelids to their original position. Dr. Pegram will work in conjunction with a strabismus surgeon to relieve any double vision. Surgery may not always be the correct treatment plan. Dr. Pegram works closely with leading-edge pharmaceutical companies that have developed a revolutionary medical therapy that has changed how thyroid eye disease is managed.

Tear Duct Obstruction

This obstruction can occur at any level of the tear duct pathway, beginning at the eyelid opening called the punctum, to the drainage valve that empties tears into the back of the nose.Incomplete formation or infection of the tear duct. This may result in excessive matting of the eyelashes and tearing. In more sever cases, and infection can develop causing pain and redness.

Tear Duct Obstruction Treatment

At Eyesthetics, we take a conservative approach to treating all conditions, reserving surgery only for when it is absolutely necessary. Depending on the underlying cause, Dr. Pegram may either prescribe medications, perform tear duct massage to help open the tear duct, or recommend surgery.

Pediatrics

A child’s visual system is constantly changing and developing until their teenage years. During these formative years, any defect may delay or permanently stunt their visual development. These defects may be arise genetically (from the parents) or acquired due to trauma or infection.
Fortunately, the majority of these issues can be easily treated. At Eyesthetics, we are well prepared to provide your child with the best possible treatment.

Common Pediatric Eyelid & Orbital Disorders

Common pediatric eye disorders include Tear Duct Obstruction, Ptosis (drooping eyelid), and Leisons of the Eyelid. Due to hyperactive facial glands, children are at risk to develop many different types of eyelid lesion, including styes.

If any of these disorders appear, please contact Dr. Pegram at Eyesthetics for a comprehensive exam.

Chalazion (styes)

Styes are blockages of the eyelid’s oils glands causing the formation of a cyst in the affected eyelid. Though this condition is common, it may require a combination of medication, warm compresses, and special eyelid massages. In more resistant cases, excision of the cyst is sometimes required. Some patients require long-term maintenance medication to prevent the formation of multiple styes. Visit us today to learn more about our patient-centered services.

Ptosis (droopy eyelid)

When the muscles that lift the eyelids fail to fully develop, eyelid drooping may result. Any obstruction of a portion of the eye can result in permanent vision loss during development. Children and infants with ptosis usually have one eye larger than the other. Usually one eye is affected more than the other.

Ptosis (droopy eyelid) Repair

Dr. Pegram combines some physical tests with a visual field test to ascertain the severity of the condition. If the eyelid position is affecting the visual development, then surgical intervention is most likely needed. If the vision is not being obstructed, allowing the child’s face to develop and age before surgery is sometimes the best approach.

MyEllevate

MyEllevate is a minimally invasive cosmetic procedure designed to improve the appearance of the neck and jawline. The procedure involves making a small incision under the chin, where a special suture is inserted and threaded through to create a supportive sling for the underlying tissue. The suture is then anchored to the jawline, providing a lift to the lower face and neck. The MyEllevate procedure is often performed in combination with liposuction to remove excess fat in the neck and jawline area.
